THE TERRACE PRISON.
Its Enlargement Protested
Against.

A deputation representing the Trades Council waited on the Minister of Justice last night, to protest against tho enlargement of the Terraco Prison in this city.
Tho members of the deputation urged that it was undesirable to perpetuato the existence of large gaols in centres of population. They should be established in country districts, whore the prisoners could bo employed on land, particularly in the cultivation of vegetables for consumption in cities.
The Minister said the matter had been under his consideration for somo time, but such a step could not be taken at once, as tho cost would bo very great. He pointed out that the enlargement of the Terraco Prison was necessary for sanitary reasons and to prevent overcrowding.
