SHOCKING OCCURRENCE NEAR WANGANUI.
Another Railway Fatality.
A Bus-driver Killed

Yesterday forenoon a shocking accident occurred near Aramoho, by which another life has been sacrificed. The fatality was the result of a collision betwoen the Palmerston train and a bus, driven by a man named Ennis, who met with a terrible death. Although the engine whistled distinctly—both before it reached tho bridge and when crossing
it the driver of tho bus drove on unheeding, and apparently saw his terrible peril when too late to avert the inevitable Ho apparently attemped to pull up tho horses when they were actually crossing the line. The enginc('river promptly applied tho Westinghouse brake, but nothing could avert the collision, and bus and horses were carried bodily along to tho " cattle-stops."
When assistance came, tho bus-driver was found to be underneath tho cowcatcher, and to oxtricato him it was found necessary to reverse the engine, thus adding to the agony endured by the unfortunate man. His injuries wero terribly serious, consisting of severe wounds on his head, his body being also terribly crushed. He was conscious when raised, up from the line, and asked for a drink, but succumbed shortly afterwards,
Tho bus-conductor, a lad named Gamble, jumped clear and escaped injury. A lady passenger, Mrs Palmer, an elderly person, received a deep gash in the sido of tho head, the hemorrhage from which was stopped with great difficulty. A little girl passenger miraculously' escaped. The horses wero practically uninjured. The unfortunate deceased was a man of nearly sixty years of age, and leaves a widow and largo family, for whom [ there is wide-spread sympathy.
