The Steamer Wakanui.
Stringent Precautions.
(By Telegraph — Press Association). Wellington, This Day. The Chief Health Officer has determined that the Colony shall run no risk in connection with the refusal of the authorities at Hobart, to allow the steamer Wakanui, which has on board two convalescents from small-pox, to land passengers at that port. The steamer is now on her way to Auckland with New Zealand and Australian soldiers on board, and tho Department will try to get her sent on to Wellington, where everything is in readiness to meet all contingencies. An inspection of passengers will be made, and if small-pox is found on board everyone will havo to undergo vaccination. All persons belonging to other colonies will bo sent back.
