ABRIDGED CABLES.
A rather severe eruption of Mt. Poleo occurred on Thursday. A heavy fall of dust caused total darkness for twonty minutes. The Morning Post's correspondent, at Johannesburg, asserts that tho cattlo plague in Rhodesia originated with Australian imported cattlo. Rinderpest is ravaging tho Barberton district in South Africa. All hope of finding the Quirang has now been abandoned in Sydney. Tho sudden death is announced at Sydney, of Mr N. F. Giblin, formerly manager of the Bank of Now South Wales, in that city. A deficit of over eight millions sterling is anticipated for the present year in the French revenue. The latest typo of British submarine was severely tested on the Barrow, and maintained a speed of fifteen knots. One hundred police evicted four families from Lord Do Freyno's estate in Connaught. One family resisted desperately, using pitchforks and boiling stirabout. Tho police have had to bo sent for in connection with the shearers' trouble in New South Wales.
