OPAKI RIFLE CLUB.
Annual Meeting.
The annual meeting of members of the Opaki Rifle Club, held in tho Prince of Wales Hotel on Saturday evening, was attended by Mr W. J. Welch (in tho chair) and a dozen members. The annual balaneo-sheet was road, showing a credit balanco of £1 10s 2d, or, with unpaid subscriptions, a balanco of £2 103. Tho receipts for tho year amounted to £15 18s, and expenditure £14 7s lOd. In moving the adoption of tho balancesheet, the Chairman remarked that ho considered the Club in a very satisfactory position, as their only source of revenue was the annual subscription paid by members. Last year had been tho most successful as far as shooting was concerned, and in view of tho fact that they capturod the Championship, besides securing second place in the teams match, tho Club could fairly claim to bo classed amongst the best Clubs of New Zealand. Members, he stated, had evinced much enthusiasm in the Club's welfare, and he hoped the same enthusiasm would continue, and members assist in the progress of the Club in every possible way. Mr R. Kibblewhito seconded the adoption of tho balance-sheet, which was agreed to. Mr H. Hoffeins, as an ox-member, and now of tho Mauricovillo Club, offered j his congratulations for tho Club's performance at the recent New Zealand meeting. The election of officers for tho ensuing year was proceeded with, and resulted as follows: President, Mr H. G. Williams (re-elected); Vice-Presidents, Messrs A. P. Whatman, V. Wardell, R. Camoron, C. A. Pownall, J. 0. Bid will, C. H. Smith, D. J. Cameron, D. Caselberg, M. C. O'Connoll, Major Donald, D. J. Cruickshank (all re-elected) and Ralph Beetham; Captain, Mr W. J. Welch; General Committee, Messrs A. Matthews R. Kibblewhite, D. McLauchlan, R. King, J. McKenzie (all ro-clocted), and T. Harford and R. Jackson ; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr J. McHattie; Financo Committee, Messrs A. Matthews, R. King and J. McKenzie. The General Committee was also appointed tho Match Committee. It was resolved, on tho motion of Mr Harford, seconded by Mr Piatt, that the subscription for tho year bo 10s, and 7s 6d to new members ; and it was further resolved to open tho season on Thursday, 18th September, Tho meeting decided to form a " working boo " to fix tho targets at the range ; also to erect a house in which to keep tho telephone instruments, etc., Messrs J. McHattio and W. J. Welch promising j to donate tho necessary timber and iron respectively. Tho Chairman reported that a requisition " had boon sent to tho Department from the Volunteer Corps and tho Riflo Club for telephone instruments, but it was decided to procure ono for the independent uso of tho Club. Messrs I. Sykos, J. McKenzie, J. H. Pauling and F. Henry were elected ; members.
