A WELL-KNOWN JOURNALIST.

CHRISTCHURCH, April 26,

Mr H. C. Jacobson, one of the best known country journalists of Canterbury died yesterday, aged 67. He came to New Zealand in 1859 and thirty years ago aws interesetd in the Ashburton Mail, Akaroa Mail and Otaki Mail. Subsequently he settled at Akaroa. He was instrumental in saving much of Maori history and early European stories of Banks Peninsula, and published one collection of these stories. The manuscript of a second volume waia destroyed by fire when ready for the press.
