STORMY WEATHER.
UT TELEGRAPH—PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) GISBORNE, April 25. A severe southerly gale has been raging since noon, on Saturday and a tremendous sea is running along the East Coast. The steamer Ta raw-era, ■ehich passed East Cape at 11 a.in. on Sunday and the Rangitira from Auckland, due yesterday afternoon, have not yet put in an appearance here. They are probably standing out to sea till the weather moderates . There has been a slight washaway on ihe railway line near Gisborne wharf. It is reported from Tuparoa that the sehooner Oreti;' late Waratah, bound from Auckland to Gisborne, has been driven ashore by the gale. The crew are safe. The vessel is uninsured. The wires are down and there arc no further particulars. LATER The gale here is abating, and the sky is clearing. 'The schooner Otcti is ashore at Tokomr.ru (not at Tuparoa) as announced earlier. ■MAN DROWNED. NAPIER, April 24.—George Duncan, a single man , aged 35 years, was swept off the. breakwater wharf by an unusually largo roller and drowned. Two Harbour Heard employees named Harmonic and MeCallum were caught by another roller whilst going to the rescue and were severely injured. The sea is the heat Jest experienced here for many years.
