Great fears are entertained that the supply of gas will be insufficient to carry out the proposed illuminations during the visit of H. 11.1-1. the Duke of Edinburgh. Parliament has instructed the Engineerin- Chief to have a report made of the probable cost of making Lake Corong navigable, by removing the " Coorong crossing," and otherwise deepening it. Were the lake navigable, it would be a groat advantage to the south-east districts both for mails and passengers. It would bring Mount Gambier within thirly-three hours drive of Adelaide. Sept. 24. The capabilities of the gasometer have been further inquired into, and it is now quite certain that there will not be sufficient gas to supply light for all the proposed illuminations during the visit of the Duke of Edinburgh.
