In the import markets during the greater part of the month business has wprn an exceedingly quiet aspect, and though advices by the last mail .were the means of imparting confidence to a greater degree than existed previously, and the* tightness by which tho money market wa3 characterised was in some degree relaxed, save in a lew exceptional articles little improvement in trUde generally has been c.tpertencQd. Bulk ales evidence a do- , cliuing market. Bottle 1-stouts hare met with increased attention. Transactions in cornsacks have transpired, bnt prices show no alteration. Woolpacks have remained neglected. Candles have risen ' in value slightly, influenced by a temporary scarcity. The cement market is somewhat weaker. In chicory and*coffee a decided decline is perceptible. Confectionery, after advancing slightly, receded again to last month's rates. Fish, fruit, Hour, and grain of all clcscripions have fallen considerably. Blasting / powder, after the lowest point, shows signs of a. reaction. Hops have been largely dealt in. Malt is, firm, without attracting any speculative notice. Metals aro alniO3t stationary. Iv oil, kerosene has dropped twenty-five per' cent, from last month's prices ; other oils aro easier. Provisions, after undergoing a peiiod of prostration, manifest more firmness. Eice^ has commanded little or no notice ; there is nS business doing in the market. Sugars licve been largely sold.
