DANGER OF BUSH FIRES IN THE AUCKLAND AREA

AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— The bush fire hazard, in the Auckland district would be serious during Christmas, said the State Forest Conservator (Mr. F. J. Perham) today. The rain last week-end had eased the position slightly but the long dry spell quickly made it worse. Fire crews would be standing by on all plantations over Christmas, he said. The co-operation by the public . ad stopped fires from breaking out, Mr. Perham continued. “So far this year, we have only had two small fires,” he added. “Ten years ago after a spell of weather like this we would be able to see smoke everywhere.”
