Firmer Values At Second Day Of Dunedin Sale

DUNEDIN, Last Night (P.A.).— Prices on the second day of the double wool sale in Dunedin today definitely firmer than on the first day last Monday. Buying was again widespread, Continental buyers bidding particularly well for the finer wools against keen competition from local mills. The record price of 1501 d for quarter-bred was equalled on two occasions today for two clips from Central Otago. The same district secured the top price on the opening day. Buyers appeared to have more elastic limits today and most classes of wool appreciated in value as a consequence. The sale for the two days comprised 43,300 bales of greasy wool and the return will run well into £6,500,000, this being a figure in excess of Otago’s entire total for last season’s sales. The most spectacular rise was in hogget wools, particularly in the case of crossbred hogget, and all previous records were shattered for this type of wool. Crossbred and fine wools also showed appreciable advances. The keen competition was due to more’ active bidding from Bradford buyers. The local mills were also more active than on Monday, but the buying still came from the Continental firms. The following is the official range of prices: Merino 60/64’s — d. d.
