Negro Singer Robeson Files Suit Against U.S.A. To Retain His Passport

WASHINGTON, Dec 19 (Recd 6 pm).—The negro singer Paul Robeson filed suit against the Secretary of State, Mr Acheson today in an attempt to prevent cancellation pf his passport. Mr. Robeson, who described himself as “a spokesman for working men and women of the United States,” told the Federal Court that Mr. Acheson and the State Department wanted him to hand in his passport. Robeson said he needed it for a singing lecture tour of Britain, France, Italy and Scandinavia. He has travelled abroad several times to attend Communist organised meetings.
