PRESENTATION OF ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE AWARDS

St. John Ambulance Brigade awards were presented by Assistant-Com-missioner E. Hamling, officer In charge of the Wanganui district, at a ceremony held in the City Council Chambers recently. Present were district officers, corps officers, superintendents of all divisions, the City Council representative on the association, the district president, Mr. G. P. Hawkins, and brigade surgeons, Apologies were received from the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., who was in Wellington, and the corps surgeon, Dr. G. H. Robertson, who was visiting Christchurch. Recipients'of awards are:— Twelve-year sendee medals.—A. J. O'Keeffe (Eastown railway division), Dorothy Smith (Gonville nursing division). Twelve-year service certificate.— Dr. G. H. Robertson (corps surgeon). Service medal bars.—First bar, 17— years’ service: Mrs. S. B. Rockell (central nursing division), Miss A. Sumsion (Gonville nursing division). Mrs. M. R. Simpson (lady district officer), G. Scott (reserve). Second bar, 22 years’ service: Dr. A. J. Crawford (district surgeon). Third bar, 27 years’ service; A. E. Allpress (reserve), the late Mr, J. J. Scott (posthumous award). Divisional president. A. A. Muller (Wanganui nursing transport division). Assistant - Commissioner Hamling thanked all officers and personnel present for their co-operation and assistance during recent months, and congratulated all recipients of awsirds for their outstanding service in the brigade in the past. He hoped that the same efficiency would continue in the future. The Chief Commissioner, Mr. F. W. Ward, K. St. J., and Priory Headquarters, wished to be associated with the gathering and extended their congratulations and best wishes to all recipients of awards, Assistant-Com-missioner Hamling added. As Mr. Bourne was absent his warrant of appointment was handed to Mr. A. E. Allpress, immediate first officer of Mr. Bourne. Films of Wanganui interest were screened by Mr. Owen Warnock.
