An Advance By British And Australians In Korea
Capture Of Town And Probe Forward Of 3000 Yards SEOUL, Nov. 16 (Rec. 10.55 pm).—British and Australian troops of the 27th. Commonwealth Brigade occupied Pakehon this afternoon, and then moved northward 2000 yards to reach the junction of Taeryong and Kyejichon Rivers.
The British sent patrols another 3000 yards across the Taeryong. Pakehon was entered without opposition. British Commonwealth troops on the left of the line probed forward without making contact with the main body of Chinese and North Korean forces. In the Wonni area, in the centre of the line, American and South Korean
- patrols had slight skirmishes with isolated Communists. The United Nations forces on the ' north-west Korean front have begun a new supply build-up for what might be the last battle of the Korean war 1 before winter sets in. An icy wind 1 swept down from the Manchurian 1 mountains on the American, British, 1 Australian and South Korean troops dug in on a new defence line about : ten miles north of the Chongchon i River.
