Dr. Butchers Addresses Meeting Of The Junior Red Cross

Dr. A. G. Butchers, retiring director of the Correspondence School of New Zealand, said at a meeting of the Junior Red Cross in Wanganui yesterday that, the junior organisation should strive to achieve three things. Firstly, the provision of parcels for New Zealanders who, after their experiences in war-ravaged countries, were in urgent need of personal gifts of welcome. Secondly, the preparation of gifts for overseas. He said that parcels were streaming into Red Cross headquarters in Wellington and it was hard to get through the corridors for ’them. These parcels were sent direct London, from where they were distributed to the most needy cases. Thirdly, and most important, was the need to learn how to live with one’s neighbours. “How much more fun and satisfaction we get by having someone else saying ‘thank you’ to us than if we take something for ourselves,” he said.
