R.S.A. “NEWS NATTER”

BY “THE THREE WALLA DS”

Greetings, Digs, Once more I'm back into harness, after a three weeks’ spell (?) at another vocation. I tried to talk the other “wallad" who made such a good fist of things over the last three weeks, to carry on with the good work —but no show, "An old Dig for a hard road" —he wouldn't come at it! Now to see what we have in the mailbag. Little Theatre: This section of the R.S.A. is in the midst of strenuous rehearsals for the "Club Night” to be held in the near future. Rumour has it that something new is in the wind, but at present we haven’t been able to ferret out the exact nature of this "something new,” so, (a) keep an eye on this column, or (b) keep an ear glued to the “Ser-.! geant’s" session from 2XA for anything further in the way of news from this sphere. Re-Unions: There are two of them in the news this week. The first, of course is our own show —our Annual Re-union Smoko to be held tomorrow night, Friday. Having been to all of these shows since returning to N.Z. I can personally recommend that a supply of Aspirin be included in “Mum s ’ Friday shopping list. The other re-union is that of the 24th Battalion to be held on Saturday, December 2, in Hamilton. Any 24th men in this district wishing to renew old acquaintances while consuming the odd "nut-brown-and-frothy” are asked to contact the secretary and one of the prime organisers of this show: Mr. J. S. Dix-Marshall, 18 Milton Street, Hamilton. Ex P.O.W. Association: This notice has been published before, but we think that it is just as well to keep it before you. The Wanganui Branch of the NZ. Ex P.O.W. Association is holding a Social Evening in the R.S.A. Hall on November 18. Admission is by invitation only, so if you are keen on attending, contact the president, Mr. G. Bretherton, or any of the executive members. British Empire Nurses War Memorial Funds: A most successful Garden Party was held in the grounds of the Public Hospital last Saturday afternoon. Stalls from various bodies (including the R.S.A.) did a roaring trade, and plenty of fun was in evidence in various competitions—particularly the ladies’ nah driving! The joint organisers of the appeal wish to express through this column, their sincere thanks to those who attended, and by so doing made such a success of the day. Farm Grading: After full discussion with the Farming Sub-Committees throughout N.Z., the Rehabilitation Board has decides that ex-servicemen still wishing to apply for Land Settlement Assistance must lodge their application for farm grading before March 31, 1951. This means that ex-servicemen who are eligible and have not been gitided for farm settlement assistance, will no’ be able to apply for participation in land ballots for ex-servicemen’s settlement, or for a Rehabilitation Loan to buy an existing single unit farm unless they have lodged an application for grading before March, 1951. The existing right of all ex-ser-vicemen who at present hold “A" grade certificates will be protected. Well, Digs, that concludes the “natter” for this week, so we'll conclude with another "Schoolboy howler:” “The animal which possesses the greatest attachment to man is—woman.” Cheerio until next week, Digs.
