The 41st. annual meeting of the Wanganui Distrdict Nursing League was held on Tuesday in the alcove of the D.I.C. tearoom. The president, Mrs A. Macnab, who precided, was presented with a floral spray by the secretary, Miss M. Kennedy, who spoke in appreciation of the president's work during the year. Congratulations on her recent marriage were extended to the District Nurse, Mrs S. W. Rountree (Sister Park) and good wishes for her future happiness were expressed. Mrs Rountree will relinquish her position as soon as a successor is appointed. The election of officers resulted: President, Mrs A. Macnab; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames J. McDougal, W. Curtis and Miss Preston; secretary, Miss Kennedy; committee, Mesdames E. McGregor, M. Welsh, Curtis, O. Coupland, L. F. Row, F. L. Peck, Misses Preston and Kennedy. Nurses on the permanent district staff present were Misses C. Owen, E. Moss, A. Kay and B. McLean. In thanking members for her reelection as president, Mrs Macnab paid a tribute to Miss Kennedy for her \vork as secretary, and also thanked the committee, the district nurse and her assistants for their work among the sick and elderly, and all who had in any way assisted the league during the year. "During the year the activities of the District Nursing League were fully maintained and from the number of people being cared for, and from the support received from public bodies and others, we can be assured that the league is still considered by the community to be fulfilling the useful purpose for which it was first formed," stated the annual report. Sister Park and her assistants visit patients regularly, giving them extra comforts provided by the league. With the assistance of Social Security benefits, many patients are deriving extra comforts, which means, at the present time, the league is not being called upon for extra assistance as in former years, it must be realised too, that patients who are being cared for by the District Nurses, and receiving as sistance from the league, can remain in their own homes to be nursed instead of entering hospital. This means much relief and comfort to sick and elderly people. During the year thedeath occurred of Miss Fraser ,a member of the league for 16 years. Grants of £l5 from the McCarthy Trust and £lO from the Mayor’s Relief Fucd were received during the year.
