Mystery Signals On London Radios May Come From Space

LONDON. Oct. 6 (Recd. 7pm).— British scientists are puzzled over mysterious radio signals received daily in London, whose origin they cannot trace. The signals produce a hissing noise and are visible when passed through a cathode ray tube. They are similar to the radio signals known to emanate from stars, but the plotting of the mysterious signals indicates they are coming from regions of space where no major stars arc known to be. There is no suggestion that the signals are anything but natural phenomena. Their existence was disclosed with the announcement that the signals will be shown visually on cathode ray tubes at a scientific exhibition in connection with next year’s Festival of Britain. Two sets of equipment are working on the mystery—one at Manchester University and one at Cambridge University. The signals were first picked up on the coastal defence radar systems during the war.—(NPA)
