Danger Nearer Of U.S. Being At War With Communist China

LONDON, Aug. 6 (Rec. 6.40 pm).— The "Observer,” in a leading article today, said the danger of war between the United States and Communist Ching had greatly increased, because last week Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek renewed bombing and blockade against the mainland from Formosa, and General MacArthur then visited the island, declaring that his object was to coordinate United States and Nationalist Chinese defence against an attack on Formosa.

“The combined effect of these two actions is to place America in a position hard to distinguish from active intervention in the Chinese civil war,” says the paper. “Seen from Peking this can appear only as extreme provocation."
