GREEN U.S. TROOPS IN KOREA COULD MAKE A STAND ON A STRONG LINE

WASHINGTON, Aug. 5 (Rec. 6 pm).—A Chicago “Tribune” correspondent says leading officers in Tokio said General MacArthur is genuinely convinced there will be no Bataan in Korea. Green American troops had been fighting under great difficulties, but they were fully expected to hold something approximating the current perimeter. The troops would hold as soon as they could establish a continuous line that is proof against deadly North Korean infiltration. It might be necessary to yield more ground in the Taegu area before a line was contracted to that extent.
