REMOVAL OF MORE PRICE CONTROLS TO BE GAZETTED TONIGHT
AUCKLAND, Last Night (P.A.)— An extensive list of items removed from price control covering several important industries would appear in the Gazette tomorrow night, stated the Minister of Customs (Mr. Bowden) at the Farmers’ Trading Company Limited's dinner tonight. Their choice was determined by two elements, sufficiency of supply and the existence of real competition. The Minister said that the Government relied on force of competition as a price control. There was not likely to be any addition to the list in the near future. “The steps taken by the Government show that it is confident that traders will make only justified adjustments in the prices,” continued Mr. Bowden. “Lest there should ba some who would bp tempted to Exploit the position, I throw out the warning that a check will be made later of price adjustments on the items on which controls remain but on which a blanket authority to raise prices has been given. “There is still general legislation legarding profiteering and the Government will not hesitate to re-impose control on any merchandise or service if it is thought that the position has been exploited.”
