WAVERLEY NOTES

BASKETBALL WAVERLEY, Last Night, (0.C.). During the week-end Alton and Kai Iwi Basketball Clubs were the guests of the local basketball club. Two friendly games were played during the afternoon, Waverley winning both. The visitors were entertained at afternoon tea after which the captains invited Waverley to return matches and thanked them for their hospitality. Results of matches were:— Waverley Seniors v. Alton, 17 to 11; Waverley Thirds V. Kai Iwi Juniors, 17 to 10. PERSONAL Mrs. Thompson, of Dunedin, has been spending a few weeks holiday with Mrs. W. Thompson. Miss N. Tremain has commenced her nursing training at the Wanganui Hospital. Miss J. Campbell, who has been nursing at Waikato Hospital, is spending a few weeks at home before going to Greymouth. Miss T. Muir, who is a Waverley visitor from England, is now staying with Mrs. D. McKenzie of Hawera. WAVERLEY TABLE TENNIS CLUB The Table Tennis Club played their first match of the season in the form of a Yankee Tournament. There was a good muster of 35 players present. The winners of thq tournament were Miss H. Bilton and R. Huff, with runners up being Mrs. G. Scott and Mr. M. Milmine. Mr. J. Knapp has resigned his position of Club Captain and this has been filled by Mr. G. Harrison. Club nights will now be held every Monday and Thursday. ST. FRANCIS TENNIS CLUB The final windup Dance and Social was held on Friday. There was a good attendance. The Merry Mac's supplied the music. The winner of the Monte Carlo were Miss J. Tremain and P. Campbell. Mr. A. Aiken won the competition. 21ST BIRTHDAY The coming of age of Elizabeth, only daughter of Dr. and Mrs. P. V. Graves was celebrated on Monc'Zy at a cocktail parly followed by a dance. The toast to the guest of honour was proposed by Dr. Simmons of Patea, to which she replied on her own behalf. Mr. G. Johnston proposed the toast to Dr. and Mrs. Graves to which Dr. Graves suitably replied. The guest of honour wore a dark apricot coloured frock, while her mother wore a black model frock.
