Shunter Killed By Engine At The Middleton Yards
CHRISTCHURCH, Yesterday (PA). —A man was killed when he was run over by an engine at the Middleton railway yards at 7 p.m. yesterday. He was William Thomas Allan Wardle, aged 29, a shunter, employed by the New Zealand Railways Department. He lived at 10 Kenshaw Place, Richmond, Christchurch. Wardle was engaged in shunting at the yards and was standing on the railway line with another man. The engine approached and his companion jumped clear, but Wardle apparently did not see the engine and was run down.
