T.U.C. May Appeal For Harder Work In Britain’s Recovery
LONDON. Nov. 9 (Reed. 7.10pm). The General Council of the Trades Union Congress, at its meeting in London today, was expected to urge the eight million organised workers it represents to work harder without increased wages to help Britain’s economic recovery . After seven weeks of controver t and debate since Sir Stafford Cripps devalued sterling, economic expert• of the T.U C. have prepared recom mendations for the General Council If these are approved the new policy of the movement is expected to be: (1) Discouragement of all new wage claims except in the case of the low-est-paid workers, and (2) an all-out drive to boost production in export industries. This programme would not greatly differ from that followed by the T.U.C. for the last eighteen months, but it. would be presented with increased determination and urgency. - Reuter.
