Women's Institute Rewa Institute
An interesting and instructive afternoon was spent in the Rewa Hall when the Rewa Women’s Institute met for its nwntly meeting, Mrs. Harre presiding. Mrs. Haire gave' her report on the Auunal meeting of the Federation. Mr. and Mrs. M. O’Brien of Hunterville, were amongst the visitors present and Mr. O'Brien gave a discourse on their tour of the U.S.A. Mrs. O’Brien assisted by showing photographs of their trip. He gave some very interesting descriptions and amusing incidents whicli the members thoroughly enjoyed, also describing to the school children some very delightful toys that were on sale in that country. The competition for the afternoon was an eggless chocolate cake, the same recipe being used by each member. Mr. O’Brien gave very instructive criticisms, members gaining many useful hints, when judging the cakes. Points were given for bloom, texture and general appearance. Mrs. Beilski gained Ist place, Mrs. Rusli 2, and Mrs. Quinlan 3. Mrs. O’Brien judged th e specimen flower competition. Miss McKenzie moved a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker. Mrs. Quinlan had a successful afternoon with her stall for Tennis club funds. The next meeting will be on the fourth Wednesday in May, a week later than the usual meeting owing to school holidays, competition being one pair of child's slippers made from old felt, to be sent to Dr. Banadoe's Homes.
( aid Afternoon. The Gonville Croquet Club members held a card afternoon in the club pavilion on Wednesday, when the hostesses were Mrs. McLean and Mrs. Stewart. Winners were Mrs. Shipman and Mrs. Pidgeon.
