WorkOfW.D.F.F.Has Changed Very Much From Eariy Days

"Today the work of the Division has changed very much from that of the early days when the principal interest was the housekeepers and mothers' help; now there are so few of both that we have turned our thoughts into other channels and .by gathering together and discussing problems that arise, we do a certain amount of good and fill a need,” declared Mrs. G. G Oliver at the annual meeting of the Tutaenui branch of the W.D.F.F. when reviewing the year's activities. On the whole, said Mrs. Oliver, the year had been a successful one. The meetings were ver/ well attended and a number of new members, both senior and junior, had been welcomed to the branch and had already joined enthusiastically in its activities. Parcels of clothing had been sent to Greece, and clothing, food and soap to the orphanage in Poland which the branch had “adopted." It was satisfactory that all these parcels had arrived intact, and letters full of giatelul thanks which the branch had received showed that there was still great need of help in other countries. "We live in a wonderfully fortunate country ourselves and it is not easy for us to realise the poverty and nunger that exist in other countiyes, not to mention the black markets which operate in such a way that those in direct need of food and clothing are deprived of both,” said Mrs. Oliver. The finances of the branch were in a good healthy position and Mrs. Little was thanked for her work and for taking over the treasurer’s position when that official had to resign during the year. The flower show held at the end of February was a great success, added Mrs. Oliver, although perhaps the entries. were not as large as usual. The judges all said the quality of the exhibits was good. Mrs. Oliver thanked all those who had assisted in this annual effort. . Holding the meetings during the winter in private homes had been much appreciated and those who had offered their homes for this purpose were assured of the branch s gratitude, said Mrs Oliver. The secretary, Mrs. Vile, was specially thanked for all the hard work she had so cheerfully done, and the delegates, Mrs. Brice and Mrs. Gray, were also thanked for attending the various provincial and committee meetings as representing the Tutaenui branch. Officers elected were: President, Mrs. G. G. Oliver; vice-presidents, Mesdames Wood, Brice and Gray; secretary, Mrs. Vile; treasurer, Mrs. Little; committee, Mesdames Stafford, Gardiner, Thompson, Collins and Miss Poppe; delegates to provincial, Mesdames Wood and Gray. The flower and apron competitions were left to the junior members who managed them very efficiently last

year The final points prize for the flower competition was won by Mrs. Stafford with 38 pointe, Miss P. Vile being second with 36 points. The May meeting is to be held at Mrs Duckworth’s home. Gifts of soap lor the Polish children are asked for and a competition for knitted mittens has been arranged.
