COLLEGIATE SCHOOL ATHLETIC SPORTS; TWO NEW RECORDS

Two records were established at the Wanganui Collegiate School sports which concluded yesterday on the school ground in fine weather and before a very large attendance. The events in which the new figures were recorded were the high jump under 17, won by R. N. Baker, who jumped the bar at sft. sin., and the half-mile under 15 won by A. McWilliams, who clocked 2min. 15.6 sec. Baker who held the previous record for the high jump under 17, last year recorded sft. 23in. The previous record for the half-mile under 15, was held by C. M, Gopalan, who in 1947 recorded 2min. 20.3 sec. The senior championship was won by J. E. Bellerby with 14 points, the runner-up was T. McK. Duncan, with 7. The junior championship was won by J. G. Tidswell with 16 points, the runner-up was A. R. Nettleton with 8 points. The prizes were presented at the end of the sports by Mrs. F. W. Gilligan.
