Brownie Revels

Just ou 100 Wanganui Brownies, a bus load of 40 from Marton, and one little Lone Brownie all the way from Waverley, met at Tirohanga last Saturday for their revels. Alter each had found a pair of fairy wings, which were hidden in amongst the pines, they formed a circle. By Brown Owl’s magic, and flip-flapping of their wings, to the accompaniment of magic words, they were transformed into all sorts of fairy folk for the day. There were rain fairies, wood and sky and sun fairies, and sea fairies. Although the weather- was showery, in between whiles the Brownies managed to have a ramble, eat thei r lunch out of doors, and playall sorts of most exciting games—the dragon who was so real he did so frighten the princess; the witch in the woods, the English and Scottish soldiers, and. many others. 'then there were lovely stories, and all participated in making a crown for the fairy queen. Then to close the day, a scramble for coats and hats, and bags and goloshes, another fairy ring, and thanks to all the Brown Owls, Tawny Owls, and Pack Leaders, who had made such a day possible, and lire ladies who had provided the giant jars of orange drinks. A very happy crowd of little people dispersed for their homes, but, of course, they had to be unmagiced back to mortals first, and Tirohanga made once more into a place for ordinary people to visit! A journey on a magic carpet did this. Handling a Wolf. Margaret O’Brien cut her vacation short because sire has to learn how to handle a wolf. Margaret has a date with George Emerson, Hollywood s wild animal trainer, who is in charge of the animals used in “The Secret Garden," in which Margaret stars | with Dean Stockwell. But for her role in the M.G.M. film, she must learn how to work with the animals—a fox, a lamb, raven, and most important of all, an honest-to-goodness four-legged wolf.
