National Orchestra To Tour N.Z. And Include Some Of Smaller Towns
DUNEDIN, Yesterday (PA).—A strenuous season is envisaged for the national orchestra by its director, Mr. Anderson Tyrer. He hopes that the orchestra will be able to undertake a major tour which will take in many of the smaller towns of both islands as well as the main centres. Such a tour would involve meeting many difficulties in accommodation and, particularly, in finding suitable halls for the orchestra to play in, but Mr. Tyre r feels that it would be well worth the effort.
Mr. Tyrer said today that the orchestra’s repertoire had become very extensive in the past two seasons alone. More than 200 pieces had been played unde r his baton and of these more than 40 had been first performances in New Zealand.
