Bacon Co.’s Annual Picnic At Raorikia
The staff of the Wanganui Mild Bacon Co., held its annual picnic at Raorikia last weekend. The staff race, a handicap event, with all members competing, was a closely contested and the factory v. shops relay, three-a-side, created much interest. The prizes donated by the firm and several wholesale warehouses, were presented at afternoon tea by the shop manager. The winners were: Single women’s race, Miss Bowen 1, Miss Saddler 2; single men’s, H. Rue 1, Reu 2; married women's, Mrs. Comrie 1, Mrs. Broomhall 2; married men’s, N. Hessell 1, G. Rue 2; children's race, Victor Reu 1, Judith Reu 2; staff race, H. Reu 1, G. Reu 2; chain-step-ping (women’s), Mrs. Hodson 1, Mrs. Comrie 2; relay, factory v. shops, won by shops’ staff; chain-stepping (men’s), W. Hodson 1. G. Hodson 2; relay, Mayfai r v. Wiltshire, won by Mayfair; egg and spoon (women's) Miss Bowen 1. Mrs. Comrie 2; egg and spoon (men’s), J. Mallet 1, E. Kimber 2; three-legged race, Mrs. Broomhall and N. Hessell 1, S. Rue and G. Hodson 2; sack race (women's), Miss Saddler 1. Miss Johnston 2; sack race (men’s) R. Malcolm 1, J. Mallet 2; thread the needle (women’s), Mrs. Broomhall and N. Hessell 1, Mrs. Comrie and H. Rue 2; running backards, (men), H. Reu 1, S. Reu 2; running backwards (women), Mrs. Broomhall 1, Mrs. Comrie 2. The tug-of-war three-a-side, Factory v. Shops, was won by the Factorv team and the treasure hunt was won by Miss N. Watt.
