EXAMINATION RESULTS FOR LAST YEAR A CREDIT. TO TECHNICAL COLLEGE

School Certificate examination results wer e again a credit to both pupils and staff, advised the principal of the Wanganui Technical College (Mr J. Dash) at the meeting of the Board of Managers, held last night. Two pupils who were ill during the examinations have recently been informed that they hav e bean awarded passes after examination by the Education Department of the school's records of their year’s work. One pupil whose interrupted period of postprimary education had totalled only three years, in addition to passing the School Certificate examination sat and passed the University Entrance examination.

Girls taking the commercial course secured excellent examination results. Two sat the Public Service shorthandtypistes' examination and both passed. 'Thirteen took Pitman’s shorthand examination &tests and 11 aecured the desired speed certificates. In the Chamber of Commerce examination a 100 per cent, pass was secured. One pupil, Pauline Whyte, secured "distinction ’ in shorthand and junior typing and passes in book-keepng, office practice, English and handwriting. Sh e was adjudged "Wanganui Scholar" for 1948.

In the Technological Examinations in mechanical engineering, I. Rolls, H. Bclleamy and J. Piper passed in Part I (drawing design and mechanics) and Part II (workshop knowledge and materials). The Director of Education has advised that secondary school bursaries have been awarded to the following pupils: L. F. Pedersen. M. V. Hedges, K. Wong, G. A. J. Gould and A. B. Gregory. Technical bursaries have been awarded to W. Coliins, A. J. Eames, A. C. Elliott, C. P. Jones and N. A. Scarrow.

The secondary school bursaries held by E. M. Foote and D. W. Cheer have been extended for a further year. The technical bursaries held by J. R. Carruthers, J. C. Cleaver, P. D. O. Hel«m, R. K. Heibner. P. N. Jones, I. L. McClure and J. B. McGregor have also been extended for a further year.
