SEATS ON LOCAL BODIES FOR UNION NOMINEES
GRAVE VIEW BY THE MUNICIPAL ASSN.
NAPIER, Last Night (PA).—Uneasiness caused by the recent legislation providing seats on harbour boards for representatives of the Waterside Workers’ Union was the cause of the Municipal Association conference carrying this afternoon a remit seeking an assurance from the Government that it was not’the intention to impose non-electlve members on municipal councils. “At the present time the Tramway Workers' Union is seeking to evade the jurisdiction of the Arbitration Court and has been influenced to hold illegal stop-work meetings throughoout the country," said Mr. R. E. Jack (Wanganui), moving the adoption of the remit “The possibility that this, or any other such industrial lawlessness might be rewarded by representatives of this or any other such union being catapulted on to city or borough councils by Government action over the heads of the electors is viewed with alarm.”
