Coal Cargoes On Fire On Ships From England

MELBOURNE. Nov 29. Three ships bound from England for Melbourne with cargoes of coal have reported fires in their cargoes. The freighter Ocean Volunteer, which arrived in Melbourne last night, had to unload most of her cargo of 8000 t&ns of coal at Durban for cooling off after fire broke out on the run from Cardiff. The damage is believed to be slight. The Fort Vercheres reached Melbourne recently with fires still burning, and firemen and watersiders had difficulty in getting to the seat of the trouble. The Beatus. due at Melbourne this week, was forced to put back to Durban for unloading after fires were reported.
