“Grand Old Lady” Of Australian Stage Dies In Melbourne
MELBOURNE, Nov. 29 (Recd. 11.20 .pm).—The death has occurred of Meta Pelham, “grand old lady” 01 the Australian stage and reputed to be the Empire’s oldest actress. Her married name was Mrs. Charles Poole. Soon after her debut at Melbourne in 1877 she went on tour, and after variety roles early this century began playing Shakespeare. She toured New Zealand in 1920.
