Brewery Afraid Of Losing Ownership Of Hotels
(P.A.) Auckland. June 30. The proposals of the Licensing Commission that breweries should be nationalised were not likely to be part of anv licensing legislation said the chairman of the directors (Mr. L. J. Stevens) at the annual meeting of Dominion Breweries Ltd. The immediate concern of the directors was to resist any attempts to encroach on the right of brewery companies to participate in the control and management of licensed hotels The possibility that attempts might be made by legislation to divorce the companies from that right was viewed with concern.** Any such move would be contrary to the public welfare.” added Mr. Stevens. It had been proved conclusively that the company’s management and control of licensed premises provided amenities which met with the approval and satisfaction of the travelling and general public. In these circumstances any interference with the existing status was absolutely unwarranted.
