The match: was not highlighted by any outstand-! ing individual performances. The i teams were evenly matched and the' game developed into hard, orthodox Rugby with the West Coast slightly' shading the East. ’ At fullback, M. Kenny (Welling-; ton), after ar. unsteady beginning, settled down to solid work and in the second half displayed more initia- 1 five than J. Takarangi <East Coast).’ Of the four wingers, E Carrington • (Poverty Bay) and J. U Potaka< (Manawatu) gave the best performances. Both are very speedy, handled and tackled well and showed nice: anticipation. P. Toro (Taranaki) • shaded G. Couch (Wairarapa) played aggressively but for the i greater part he was well contained by A. Te K. Reedy (East Coast). There was little to choose between the half-backs. R. Jacob (Welling-. ton) and Raueti (Bay of Plenty). The former took heavy punishment from the East Coast loose forwards but kept valiantly on the ball and showed ability to make play even when the ball was not hooked. Raueti gave a speedy and accurate; delivery from scrums with a dive pass. Among the forwards. S. Waru Waikato), S. Heperi (Wellington) and M. Wi Neera <Wellington) were outstanding for the West Coast. W. Carrington (Poverty Bay), K. Bulli-. vant (Poverty Bay), L. Sciascia (Central Hawke’s Bay) and I.
