Wanganui Show Association Appeals For New Building Funds

An appeal to all supporters for a donation towards its new building fund has been issued by the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association, which states that at least £5OO is required this year. The association aims to provide permanent sheep pens and a further cattle pavilion at the showgrounds.. “During the past 10 years we have steadily improved our finances while the schedule of classes at our annual show has been greatly extended. You will remember that we were at one time in recent years in such financial difficulties that we were on the verge of going into liquidation," the association stated. “Since those dismal days we have rallied our active members and by obtaining the services of keen and entlius.astic workers, we have at last got the association on its feet. And we take reasonable pride that this has been accomplished, despite the disorganisation caused by the six years of World War 11. Had we been able to carry on without the interruption caused by the war. our finances would have still greater improved. “We have now arrived at the stage when we must provide permanent sheep pens and a further cattle pavilion. The Wanganui Jockey Club has recently given us permission to erect these buildings on their property on the racecourse and we hope to erect the sheep pavilion, at any rate, before the next show, which is to be held on Friday and Saturday, November 12 and 13. We have all the timber and roofing iron on the spot, and it is estimated that the erection of the building will cost approximately £5OO. It will measure 40 x 130 feet and it will accommo date 130 pens. Later we hope to double the size of the building, but in the meantime, we propose to ‘make haste slowly’ in the matter of building. “Last year we completed a new cattle pavilion at a cost of £7OO out of revenue and we are still far short of the required accommodation for our cattle exhibits. Next year we hope to complete the erection of a building 60 x 40 feet, which will be large enough to accommodate about 40 head of cattle.

All these buildings are to be so erected that they can easily be transferred to another site, if that is found to be expedient in the future." The statement is signed by ’ the president, Mr. C. J. Masters.'and the secretary, Mr. A R Donaldson
