Prime Minister Said To Have Suppressed Report On Maoris
(P.A.) Auckland, June 26. “The Prime Minister's request for an apology is a repetition of history," said the ReV. E. Blackwood Moore, replying to Mr. Fraser's answer to the telegram sent to him by Mr. Moore yesterday. “I possess a lengthy report entitled “Tne East Coast Maori Today” compiled by a subcommittee of the Waiapu branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute in 1947. Among other things, it deals with 'money and the Government.’ I am informed the report was suppresed and the people responsible for it were asked by the Primo Minister to apologise. The Prime Minister will know to what I am referring. What I have done is In the interest of the Maori people and correspondence received from all over the North Island in recent weeks has indicated that something ought to be done about the situation."
