Shinwell Is Not Resigning

Recd. 10 p.m. London, May 6. “I have no intention of resigning, either now or in the future,” declared the Secretary of State for War, Mr. Shinwell, denying widespread rumours that he was on the point of quitting the Government. The rumours arose following a meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party, at which attacks were reported to have been made on Mr. Shinwell’s week-end speech in which he declared that the Government had started to nationalise without knowing how. Mr. Shinwell saw the Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee) after the meeting.
