DISTINGUISHED SCOT TO VISIT WANGANUI

SIR JOHN FALCONER, FORMER LORD PROVOST, EDINBURGH Former Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Sir John Falconer will include Wanganui in the tour of New Zealand which he is making following his visit to Dunedin as the representative of Edinburgh at the centennial celebrations in the Otago province. He will arrive in Wanganui on Thursday and will make this city his headquarters during his stay till Monday next. Sir John Falconer brought out to New Zealand a gift from the city of Edinburgh to the city of Dunedin, and in addition he carried a message of goodwill and. gratitude for the people of New Zealand from all Scots in their homeland. He will also interest himself in ascertaining how recent immigrants to New Zealand are settling down, and will inquire into the prospects of interesting still more desirable immigrants. On Thursday night he will be extended a welcome at a dinner and social evening, organised by the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band, members of which will parade in his honour and play him from his hotel tn the hall at which the function will he held. During his stay here he will nay visits to the Wanganui Technical College, the Wanganui Collegiate School, and the Wanganui Girls’ College, addressing the pupils at each institution. Visits will also be paid to points of interest in and and around the city and to Hunterville. On Sunday it 'is expected Sir John will give an address at St. Patil’s Church. “I bear a message of deep gratitude for all that New Zealand has done for Scotland during the past trying years.” said Sir John on his arrival m Dunedin “Scotland has emerged again with honour from the ordeal, and she recognises to the full the hem she has received from her children in this land. Never before were the feelings of Scotland toward New Zealand so warm as they are today, and the bonds 1 which bind us together so strong.” _______
