WELLINGTON TAXI-DRIVERS MAY BE PROSECUTED

(P.A.) Wellington, Jan. 24 The names of a number of offending taxi-drivers on Anniversary Day (Thursday) were taken and prosecutions were quite possible, stated the traffic superintendent to the Wellington City Council, Mr. P. F. Hazledon, today? His department had made a check of the taxi service on Thursday and had found so many plying between the city and Trentnam Racecourse that there were insufficient left in the city to maintain an essential service, and even hospital and other urgent calls could not be met. Mr. Hazledon said the drivers had broken the regulations by taking passengers from ous queues and operating from unauthorised stands, or touting and by filling cars with separate fares without a prior permit.
