Two Former Naval Tugs on Way to N.Z. Have Stormy Trip

Recd. 11.55 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 1. Two former naval tugs purchased by the Union Steam Ship Company, of New Zealand, Ltd., arrived at Sydney today after a stormy 39 days’ trip from Singapore. They are the Empire Shirley and Empire June.

The Empire Shirley towed the other tug to save fuel on the trip. They are manned by Malayans and Indians, with white officers. After refuelling at Sydney the tugs will proceed tn vVeHmgtoi!, where the native crew» wi?i be repatriated.. The chief officer of the Empire Shirley (Mr. A A. Fuller,* said they had only one and days’ good weather on the trip. Heavy seas broke over the tug» almost continuously and the crews got little sleep.
