BAD RAIL SMASH IN JAVA

25 KILLED; 70 INJURED

Recd. 10 p.m. Batavia, Oct, 1. Twenty-five Indonesian passengers were killed and 70 seriously injured in a railway accident between Parakan and Temanggung, north of Magelang, in Central Java, yesterday. Four heavily-laden carriages broke loose from a train on a steep grade. One carriage jumped the rails and capsized. The other three ran down a gradient at 50 miles an hour till the brakeman was able to stop them near Kranggang. The Indonesian and Chinese Red Cross rushed assistance to the scene.
