Reference to Jews Causes Regional Food Controller to Resign

(Special N.Z.P.A. Correspondent) Recd. 6.55 p.m. London, July 23. The Minister of Food Mr. Strachey, informed the House of Commons that he had accepted the resignation ot Brigadier V. T. R. Ford, regional food controller at Nottingham, following an inquiry into the allegation that Brigadier Ford had informed a party of German journalists visiting Nottingham that blackmarket offence’s were mainly committed by Jews.

Mr. Strachey said that Brigadier Ford had informed the officers conducting the inquiry that, it was not his intention to cast a reflection on the Jewish race, but nevertheless it was felt essential that a food control officer should show complete impartiality. He therefore accepted Brigadier Fords’ resignation when it was placed in his hands. Mr. Strachey refused a request, by Mr. Anthony Eden That the findings of the inquiry be made public.
