N. Z. HORSES REMAIN IN HOLD OF WAHINE

MAY HAVE TO BE SENT BACK TO DOMINION Recd. 10.25 p.m. Sydney, March 19. As a result of the waterside strike 12 thoroughbred New Zealand horses have been forced to remain in the hold of the Wahine since she arrived at Sydney yesterday morning. The secretary of the R.S.P.C.A., Mr. Lord, said he protested that the horses were showing signs of confinement to the hold in the tremendously hot conditions after they had voyaged from New Zealand. He added that everything possible was being done by the ship’s company, but unless the unfortunate horses were discharged they might have to be sent back to New Zealand. He regarded the refusal to land the horses as showing a great lack of humane feeling.
