LABOUR OUSTED IN WEST AUSTRALIA

Perth. March 19, Tlie replacement of the Labour Government in West Australia by a composite government formed by the Liberal Party and the Country and Democratic League now seems certain. The latest figures in one of the most interesting elections ever held in West Australia indicate that, in the new: Legislative Assembly of 50 seats, Laoour will have 23 members and the combined Opposition 25. There will be two Independents. The Liberal Leader, Mr. Ross McLarty, is expected to form the Government.

A recount in the notorious hot spot of Marbie Bar provided comic relief. Electoral officers toiled all day to check th e result in which the Labour man led the Independent by 233 votes to 234. Alter hours spent in a temperature of over 100, officers produced a new result in which Labour led by 234 to 233.

Other sources admit the possibility of the Opposition gaining even more seats One of three apparently safe Independent seats has been lost to Liberal. Another decision in favour of the Opposition would mean that the composite f»rly would have a clear majority despite the attitude of the Independents.
