WANGANUI BORN CONDUCTOR OF CHAMPION B BAND

Conductor of the new B Grade, championship brass band of N.Z. the Nelson Garrison, is Wanganui born Lieutenant R. C. Trownson, who left Wanganui in 1939 for Nelson. His early band experience was gained with the Wanganui Garrison Band, in which he played the soprano cornet and the flugel horn, and his first essay as a conductor was also in Wanganui when he took over the baton of the Regimental Band when Mr. John Trussell retired. Lt. Trownson is from a family well known in the musical circles of Wanganui His father played a cornet and his uncle the trombone in the Garrison Band.

A conductor now for eight years, Lt, Trownson is competing in his third national contest, and his triumph yesterday in the city of his birth was his first major success.
