LADIES’ SOLOS
Miss B. Burt (Dunedin Ladies) 96 Miss E. Keenan (Dunedin Ladies) 94 Miss J. Maxwell (Dunedin Ladies) 81) Miss T. Waters (Dunedin Ladies) 89 These were the only competitors. The standard shown by the ladies yesterday afternoon was exceptionally high,” said Mr. T. J. Kirk-Burnand,— “much higher than has been shown in any other section.” The ladies displayed great artistry and the tonal quality, particularly that of the second competition, was really beautiful. •Unfortunately,” he said, “she.had one or two slips towards the close, which lost her points.” Mr. Kirk-Burnand said that the girls deserved great credit for their performances and it was a pity that there were not more than lour competitors in the solo event. ‘I am not in the habit of awarding high points in any competition,” said Mr. Kirk-Burnand, “unless the performance is really fine, but I could not help it yesterday afternoon” he said. “The performances were really outstanding. The other competitors had good tone,” he said, after commenting on the beautiful tone brought out by the winner, “but they were inclined to be occasionally fierce.
