Real Basis’of Wealth. Speaking of the need for a proper appreciation of the need for production if prosperity was to be maintained. Mr. S. G. Always a popular event, the Wanganui returned servicemen’s annual golf tournament, is to be held al Belmont this year. A live committee has been formed and with the experience of past years to guide it, it. will be able io promote a programme even belter than in the past. Technical College Pipe Band. The pipe band of the Wanganui Technical College is Io provide the musical items at the Gonville School garden party on Saturday. The band, an enthusiastic combination tutored by Drum-Major E. C. Morgan, consists of nine pipers and seven drummers. The band is now becoming well known to residents of Wanganui and district, its previous public performances including street parades and items at up-river picnics. National Savings.
Last week 301 places throughout, the Dominion, including all the principal centres, obtained their national savings quotas. The number of areas obtaining their allotted amounts each week remains at a consistently high level, the latest results showing 68 more local attainments than were recorded during the corresponding week of last year. Hamilton and Whangarei are the latest additions to the list of postal districts in which the full year’s quota has been attained. Evangelistic Politics.
Introducing Mr. S. G. Holland, M.P., to the audience at. the Opeia House last night, the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, said he had been handed a pamphlet entitled “Which Path?” as he entered. Perhaps, if things went wrong and he wanted' another job after July next. Mr. Holland might help him, said Mr. Rogers. “No one is beyond political salvation,” remarked Mr. Holland. “When lam head of the Government 1 shall give serious and sympathetic consideration to any application Mr. Rogers may make.” Tech. College Parade. The Cadet Corps and the Air Tiaining Corps squadron of the Wanganui Technical College are to hold an inspection parade this morning. The commanding officer, Central Military District, Brigadier-General Dittmer, was to have inspected the parade, but due to an accident, will not now be able to attend, and will be represented by Army officers. Martial music for the parade will be provided by the school brass band of 24 instruments, and the pipe band, with 16 players.
