WOMAN JUROR

HISTORY IN WELLINGTON Wellington, Oct. 2S History was made in the Supreme Court at Wellington to-day, when a woman took her place in the jury chosen to hear a civil issue, a compensation case before the. Chief Justice (the Hon. H. F. O’Leary). Officials of the Court commented that it was the first time in Wellington that a woman had become a member of a jury. The wofnan was Mrs. Lottie Annie Allen, of Awarua Street, Ngaio, and the case was the first one to be called. Another resident of Ngaio, Mrs. Lilian Beatrice C'arke, was on the common jury panel for the criminal sessions on which the Supreme Court was engaged last week, but she was challenged and did not participate in a sitting jury.
